Should an anti-psychotic be used with an antidepressant for psychotic depression?
This Rx is an atypical antipsychotic in the benzo family to treat schizophrenia mainly. For treating psychotic depression, it should not be combined with SSRI as it can cause adverse side effects/SSRI-induced serotonin syndrome. It rather should be combined with a MOOD STABILIZER instead. Consult with your psychiatrist regarding the aforementioned as my opinion cannot substitute for your MD's expertise.
Never use antipsychotics, unless you have no other option
SSRIs are relatively safe, but antipsychotics damage your brain forever, search for tardive diskinesia and you will find out what I'm talking about.
