I am a 65 yr old healthy female who has always had annual physicals and no symptoms of bloody stools, I have regular bowel movements, I am very educated on eating healthy and nutrition, etc. and I do not feel I need to have a colonoscopy. Why do I have to?
perry0141, Polyps form in the colon without any symptoms at all, most are harmless but, some continue to grow and can become cancerous.A healthy diet certainly helps but,it doesn't guarantee that you won't develop polyps. The choice is yours, of course. I put off having one as well, one large, pre-cancerous polyp was found on my ascending colon that had to be removed surgically and I ended up with a partial colectomy with a resection.I just had my follow up colonoscopy 2 weeks ago and all is well. Find a good doctor and let him know about your apprehension, you can be sedated or knocked right out or, you can take the chance that you might be ok. Good Luck either way !
