... causing me severe pain in addition to sleep interruptions despite the sleep medications I am prescribed. PCP says not to worry I have no fever but this going on now for months and just getting worse! Does anyone know what this could be??
Can you go see a neurologist without a referral from your PCP? Thats what I recommend. If you need a referral from a PCP, either insist to your PCP that you want a second opinion from a neurologist and if he wont do it, change PCP's. Keep fighting to get someone to listen. You know your body best!! I'm not sure what, exactly, it could be. There are a number of conditions that can have muscle spasm and not all of them are accompanied by fever! It is not normal anyway and it seems your Dr is being a bit cavalier.
You definitely need to find another doctor if your PCP will not refer you to a neurologist. I hate doctor's that act this way. It is so not in the best interest of the patient. I don't know if you are in a HMO or a PPO. If you are in a PPO then find a neurologist that is in your plan. If you are in a HMO and can't get the referral then you will have to appeal to your HMO. You could also just pay the new doctor directly and if there is a financial issue just tell the new doctor and he will probably work out a reduced rate especially considering your spasming issues.
