I am on prozac 20 now.. I have been to many doctors mainly because the 'shrink' who used to be in my town left and only medical doctors are here and they are afraid to order such medications..I have had numerous relationship problems with being misunderstood. I was dx'd with bi-polar also...
I know what you mean tho, its more then the usual little disagreements. I have fibro, and if I couldn't do something, it was because I was lazy, stupid, just didn't want to be with him, etc. not because of the truth, I hurt too darn bad to want to be around anyone. When you have an illness, and the other one in the relationship has no empathy, it isn't going to work without a struggle. Prozac is an antidepressant and may or may not be a problem if you're bi-polar. There are several very good meds out there that could help you feel better. Could you go to another town to find a shrink? Its a pretty important thing to get appropriate treatment.
Hi Susie. Sounds like you understand what your situation is. However, it is essential to have a good therapist, preferably a psychiatrist to be sure you have the right meds to get you to better health. Welcome to the site, as there are many here with experience to help.
The dose of celexa is a starting dose. It acts faster than many other antidepressants. if it is healing at this dose that is great. It can be adjusted. Bipolar usually requires other meds as well.
Just wondering if you are within a driveable distance for another area where you can get better health care. Bipolar needs careful management for your quality of life and happiness of you and others. It requires the help of a good therapist. Others will chime in soon to help you further with what you would be best to do. Karen
Well, I've been told I don't play well with others, especially authority figures ... docs mostly. And I must say, unless you have a partner that doesn't even try to understand, its rough. Need proper treatment for your psych issues, things could get worse. I was diagnosed bipolar 44 years ago, and lots of other things, and one does need a shrink to help you decide on appropriate meds you take. Psych meds are kind of hit or miss until you find the right combo for you. No way you hurry that up.
Its important to see a psych doc, they specialize I'm head issues.
Prozac 20mg. The titration (the time the medicine takes to achieve peak plasma concentration) for an SSRI is usually 2 - 4 weeks. During that period, should you not feel any difference in improvements to your depression, ocd, anxiety or moods and/or your symptoms has gotten worse than before you were put on Prozac, then it is time to see your doctor again. So far I have not heard of bi-polar being treated with Prozac. Prozac is primarily used to treat depression and ocd.
Hello Susie68. You can have a second, third even a fourth opinion. Medical doctors often know the psychiatric drugs as well as the psychiatrist. They have access to the PDR as all doctors do. And professional medical sites such as this one as well. Doctors today have access to numerous sources of data. Regards, pledge
