I have had RA now for at least 4 years now and have not found a medication that has helped except prednisone. I have tried MTX alone and with Enbrel. My first try at Humira caused an allergic reaction called angioedema. My doctor thought that it was such a rare reaction that it wasn't the Humira. So, we tried again and it happened quicker and worse. Orencia has been denied by my insurance co as they want me to go on Remicade next. Aren't Humira and Remicade too much alike? Will Orencia be any different in its makeup? I would really like to hear back if anyone has had experience with this.
I see your question was over a year ago. I hope you're doing better. I was on Remicade for about 9 years until recently. My understanding is that Remicade is made from a mice protein, humira is made from a human protein. They all work a bit differently at different levels.
My research lately have found that diet is a key role in RA and many other diseases. Gluten, and sugar, and dairy, along with red meat are all things to avoid. A more vegetarian diet is better and organic as possible. I am doing better on supplements and diet.
