... so frustrated when friends and family tell me "just exercise" and you will feel better. Omg... I can barely get out of bed. What do I tell them ? I know they mean well but I really want to scream. Help!
My new favorite response it showing your RA medicine to them, have them look it up online and then tell them that no self-respecting Dr or Rhuemy Dr will prescribe POISON to a hypochondriac who needs a little exercise.
Make sure they understand what is being put in your body to enable you to get out of bed.
You will never change everyone's mind, but just one person on your side makes a world of difference.
I wish i knew how to make people see what chronic pain does to someone. True empathy seems to be s thing of the past.. I would just tell them your dr will tell you if he thinks you should exercise, you really don't need to give you advice. Ate you on something for the ra? If your pain is eased you may be able to function a little better
Well with regular or osteoarthritis light excercises can help but RA is a whole other animal. Maybe they are confusing the two or they just don't understand. My dad tells me the same thing with my bulging discs and sciatica. Oh I walk and stretch everyday and now I am cured! People can't understand unless they experience the pain themselves. I do believe they want to help. I know how much pain I am in and I am sure it is only half the amount of pain you are in. The only people that really understand are the people on this site that deal with chronic pain everyday. It has really saved me from bad depression. Just knowing there are others out there who experience the same pain you do helps.
