My doc switched me from celexa 40mg to pristiq 50mg starting tomorrow. I'm interested in knowing if it works better than celexa? Thank you
Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is an SNRI used to treat depression. It works by increasing the amount of serotonin and norepinephrine available in the brain. Celexa is an SSRI. So since it's in a different class of ADs it may work better for you. There is currently no FDA-approved generic alternative available. Pristiq is supposed to be a cleaned-up version of Effexor. Since Effexor is generic the Pristiq would cost a lot more. I'm also interested to hear what others have to say since Celexa is only mildly working for me. Personally, since Pristiq is not on my formulary I would first try Effexor for cost reasons. If you got free samples of Pristiq that would be nice.
