if you are taking revia and you drink will you get physically sick? and what if you take more then prescribed what are the causes?
Hello, I started on Naltrexone on 8/12/14. I have been on it for 3 days now. I am still drinking every day as usual. I feel a little funny. I have had a headache twice. I took tylenol for it and it went away. I had trouble falling asleep last night when I finally stopped drinking and went to bed because my last couple of drinks last night I noticed that I was short of breath. I think the Naltrexone (Which is generic for Revia) is lessening the effects of the alcohol. Last night I had as much if not more then usual but I didn't really feel the symptoms of having a lot to drink. We were watching S.O.A. on Netflix and I was doing a pretty good job of keeping up with all the details of what was going on. Most of the time (since I'm a dizzy blond, lol ) I tend to ask my boyfriend questions like, Okay, what's going on ? I know some of that is just because they sometimes mumble on the series and don't want the you to get it yet. Some of it though is because after I've had maybe 7 or 8 rum and coke's its hard to fully follow everything. My stomach has been messed up. I have had ongoing tummy trouble for the last couple years but I think its been a little worse. I think the Naltrexone can make you feel a little sick off and on. I guess the biggest thing and the weirdest, is that after a few drinks I'm still feeling pretty together like I've only had maybe 2 or 3. It might be like drinking and doing coke. The coke keeps you totally amped up so you kinda feel less drunk, until you crash that is. I also think that I am drinking a little less. I can't really explain it because I'm not keeping track but I think I'm drinking a lot slower. Instead of almost chugging my first couple rum and cokes I am taking my time with each drink. So, I guess I probably am cutting down some so far without really trying. I do plan to start keeping track of my drinks and monitoring whats going on while taking this med I just haven't started doing it yet. Since I just started it I'm just feeling it out and seeing what it does. I think my attitude is like... Okay, I dare you to make me not want to drink! I hate to even admit that but I'm being honest. I do think it's helping me. I'm feeling kind of proud of myself that I'm pretty together the last couple of days even though I'm drinking. I truly hope this helps
Hi, i took Revia for a little bit about a year ago. It made me physically sick when I had more than one drink (stomach ache, vomiting). I have a sensitive stomach in general but the Revia definitely seemed to exacerbate the situation. In a sense, it was a good deterrent to stop drinking, but ultimately at that point I wasn't ready to stop drinking, so I just stopped taking the Revia. I am about to start taking Revia again because now I do feel that I am ready to get serious about my alcoholism, but this took a long time and a lot of back and forth. My advice to you is that when you are truly ready to change your life (stop your drinking), take the Revia, maybe go to church or a meeting and really try your best not to drink while you are on it. Best of luck to you, I can honestly say I know how you feel and how much of a struggle it is. You can do it!
