It's something to try before you start taking prescription medication. I take 5000 IU every other day but depending on your size a larger or smaller amount might be sufficient. Hi Marcos555, I too have restless leg syndrome and get cramping in the legs. Sometimes it feels like my thigh will break, I have been taking Vitamin D for a while now, and the Dr prescribed 4,000 IU's per day. But I also have to take Ropinirole because the combination helps better in my case, but that's great that you can get by just using the vitaminD. Take care, Liz
A quick reminder. Be sure you consult with your physician and they test your level. Too much vitamin D is toxic. Also, it needs calcium with it to work. Dairy products or daily calcium tabs help with that.
Once your level is up to a normal level, it is easier to maintain it and the large doses are not needed. And be aware that calcium tabs and many vitamins have vitamin D in it as well and is part of your daily count.
Daily doses of 1000 units where it is winter and little sun is usually enough when you are back in balance. Also, do watch for medication interactions. There are many out there where you must a wait a few hours after you take certain meds.
