A few weeks ago I had respiratory collapse (centrally cyanosed) during abdomen general anaesthetic. The doctor thinks it was anaphylaxis. I have since been diagnosed with both COPD stage 2 and uncontrolled asthma. Were these conditions the more likely cause of what happened, rather than anaphylaxis?
It could very well been caused by your respiratory problems but if you ever need surgery again, you need to caution your anesthesiologist about what happened and that they thought it could have been anaphylaxis but also that you were diagnosed with respiratory issues shortly after. It is hard to say what was the cause but if you ever have to go under again they need to be prepared or they may opt for spinal anesthesia instead of general.
