My sister went to rehab for drugs and was sober for about 3 years. For the past year my family has noticed a differenence in her as if she relapsed. We recently found out that the mental health doctor she was seeing was giving her prescriptions for hundreds of pills of oxycontin a month and she used my mom's insurance to pay for all of this. How can we persue this doctor? what steps do we take first?
You really need to find out from your sister whether she needed the pills for pain. If the prescribing is legitimate then you can't really do anything. Your sister needs to consent that it was inappropriate prescribing and that her doctor just gave the pills to her demands to misuse the pills.
She really might be in pain from some condition. If she isn't then you could perhaps contact the medical council or doctors regulatory body and let them know your thoughts. I don't know what they would do.
