Has anyone else had this happen? my doctor refuses to see me since they consider me "contagious"
The shingles was most likely not caused by the Remicade. It was probably coincidental or brought about by increased stress on the body. I take it this is your Rheumatologist who refuses to see you? You do need treatment for the shingles however. See your primary care physician. You should be given Valtrex ASAP to prevent post herpatic neuralgia which is a chronic nerve condition caused by an outbreak of shingles (not to mention shingles themselves can be quite painful). The earlier you receive the Valtrex the better because it can keep the outbreak to a minimum as well. You are contagious and should not be around anyone who has never had the chicken pox virus. Shingles is actually caused by the chicken pox virus (Herpes Zoster). It lays dormant along the nerves until something "reactivates" it.
