The pulse and the heart beat are the same. When the heart beats, it sends blood out throughout the body. The blood vessels (arteries) that carry this oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body help push the blood, the pulse is felt at areas where the vessels are close to the surface and you can feel the waves of blood whooshing through the vessels.. Each beat of the heart pushes blood which forces the heart valves to open and close too, so we feel a "pulse" at each location.
From net Dr: The heart is a muscular pump that with each heart beat pumps blood around the body. On leaving the heart the blood first travels along the arteries.
The pulse is what you feel over an artery as the pressure inside increases following each heart beat.
