I guess we all sure are different. But the medical profession also seems to have changed a lot. I don't recall Uric Acid levels being given as decimal. So I have no idea what those numbers mean. But I have lived with Gout some 25 years and only 2 major attacks. A major attack means the joint is paralyzed. You can't move it without screaming. That only happened 2X in about 25 years and once I decided to not eat what causes attacks I was fine. I think the new docs don't understand Gout like the old ones did. You should be on more than just Allopurinol, and you didn't mention anything. Just as important, you need to give up many different foods, and you said nothing about diet. So ...
Attacks are common while reducing Uric acid. To prevent the attacks, one of several meds is used. They gave me Probenecid. There are 2 drugs in that pill. One of them started to have side effects they didn't like. I don't take it anymore but I did take it for a very long time. Another good drug to prevent attacks is Colchicine. That's probably the oldest Gout drug there is. Sometimes the older drugs are best. I was always told to take 1 of them plus Allopurinol. So ask about that. When I had a full blown attack I was put on Indocin. All the other drugs were stopped until the attack cleared up.
Now here's the thing. None of these drugs will keep you out of pain if you don't watch your diet. Have you been doing this? There are a real lot of foods and some drinks you can never have again. These vary with the person. I haven't had a steak in 25 years. So no beef, lamb, pork, veal, or anything like that. I find I can eat pork spare ribs 2 times a year but they must be cooked on a rack so the fat drips out. The purines are mostly abundant in the fat. But basically you won't be eating these meats anymore. You will eat chicken and turkey, and fish from now on. Or you will have pain. It's up to you. No shell fish. That means the best ones, Lobster, crab, scallops, and anything in or with a shell. Alcohol is a huge problem. I was able to cheat with alcohol. Some people can cheat with red meats. You have to find out what your body can do. There are more things too. Like oats. No more oats. No oatmeal cookies. This is all I remember. But there are many other things you can't eat. I'm shocked they didn't tell you.
