Is it a regular use of metamucil or something unusual ?
This is a very common use for metamucil. Metamucil is a fiber source that helps keep stools soft which will prevent large hard stools, and straining which can lead to rectal bleeding. You must drink a lot of fluids for metamucil to work properly. If you dont like the taste of Metamucil, Benefiber works just as well and it doesnt change the flavor or texture so you can add it to any beverage that isnt carbonated or you can add it to foods. Some people like this as they dont like the flavor and gritty texture of Metamucil. You still have to drink lots of fluids whichever fiber source you choose. The fiber must have available fluid in the system to keep the stools soft.
