Do you see a pain management dr? You have to assess everything in your life too. Is your mattress appropriate for you? What about the height of the heel of your shoe? You see what I mean? Then there are modalities like physical therapy, massage, biofeedback etc. . I've been dealing with back pain for about 10 yrs now and there is no time you don't have pain. You just have better times then others. My big way of dealing with it is to stuff it in a box in my brain and refuse to think about it until it gets so bad I can't ignore it anymore. That takes years of practice tho, and a really stubborn person.
I have DDD in my lumbar spine accompanied with lovely sciatica. The best things I have found are:
1. Anti-inflammatories (depending on cause of back pain.)
2. Icy hot patches
3. Stretches (again, careful depending on your condition)
4. Rest, rest, rest!
Also, drink plenty of water. Try your best to get enough sleep. Be conscious of your posture, your shoes, your mattress, your chair at work... All of these things play a part.
Wishing you well!
