I am 58, I have had scoliosis all my life, in my early 20's I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I have been fighting chronic pain for over 30 years. 18 years ago I was also diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis, bursitis in my hip, carpol tunnel syndrome in both arms and narcolepsy. 5 years ago degenerative joint disease, siatica down both legs, and bursitis in my other hip, both knees and one elbow, which is becoming more deformed all the time. I have 3 disc that are crushed. My bones crumble so surgery is out. Over the years I've tried everything available for a normal life. Specific exercises, herbal medicines, acupuncture, diet change and then I had to go to pain medications. Everything I take causes constipation, including my blood pressure medication. I take Oxycontin 40 twice a day which is for long term pain and does what it is supposed to. The problem is I have been on Lortab for 30 years and they do not help anymore for break-through pain. Are Percacets better than Lortab 10? What about the information on this website that said you shouldn't take a stool softener with Percacet, is that a real problem because I have to take something regularly?
I am not aware of any problem with taking a stool softner while on Lortab or Percocet. I checked the interaction checker using Dulcolax stool softner and Percocet and it said no interactions found. Best to check with the pharmacist, but I think you are ok to take both.
The Percocet contains oxycodone with acetominophen while the Lortab contains hydrocodone with acetominophen. The oxycodone is stronger than the hydrocodone. So yes Percocet might work better for your pain.
i take percocet10/325 for breakthru pain and to keep the pain under controll, as for the stool softener, it isnt really good to have ur body use to it, but if need to , like my dr. he prescribed me senna, pill form , u can also buy in tea form for constipation. its a more natural way
I use oxycodone (the narcotic ingredient in Percocet) and use stool softeners. I haven't heard anything negative about it, in fact I have seen stool softeners recommended many times for anyone using narcotics on a regular basis. Also, regarding your Lortab not working anymore, the oxycodone (narcotic ingredient in Percocet) as well as Percocet itself comes in several strengths, as well as amounts of acetaminophen (Tylenol). If one strength doesn't help, there are other strengths to try. Of course that is between you and your doctor to decide. Best wishes!
Dear auntniknik, I have taken stool softeners for years for constipation due to taking pain meds for your exact conditions. I find they don't help when you are really already bound up. With my doctor permission I use Milk of Magnesia every so often, & once clear start taking the stool softeners. High fiber diet with lots of water helps too, but taking large doses of meds can even make that a bigger problem as I have found. Hope this helps...
