I'm 53 and have had Raynaud's for a yr.now and I have scleroderma in my throat too. Have been put out of work by my doctor. My fingers turn white but more often they turn almost black. I have an appointment with the rheumatologist about the scleroderma in my throat. Was in the er last week with what I thought was a heart attack but it was my esophagus convulsing. I had a heart attack 16 yrs ago. When the weather started changing it start affecting my toes. Just looking for someone to talk to about it. No one I know understands what I'm going through and and that just makers matters worse.
Kmc123 - I'm sorry you're going through this. Im a 55 y/o female. I do not have Raynaud's but I do have the "prayer hands" contracture. I'm scheduled for an esophageal biopsy. Besides having on the low side lung capacity & volume, I also have some difficulty swallowing food sometimes and occasionally have a constrictor of my throat when I've been talking awhile. I make sure to carry a couple cough drops with me as the saliva production helps relieve that scary feeling. The worst is when I aspirate a little liquid and my throat really closes up and I am wheezing/gasping for breath. I've finally learned to relax and try to breath through my nose.
A CPR instructor told me as long as there is noise when I'm trying to recover then I'm not actually choking.
Has that happened to you in the early stage of your illness? My Rheumatologist put me on Plaquinel. I also take venlafaxine & lamotrigine for depression & bipolar II.
HANG IN THERE!
