I have been throwing up randomly for the past few months. It will go where i throw up every few weeks every few days then it will stop for a few weeks and it just keeps coming back and fourth. Sometimes when i smoke it makes me gag to where i throw up other times it will happen for no reason. I had mentioned it to my dr and she thought it was heartburn and the sphyctor opens when i smoke and that the heartburn becomes so much that I throw it up. But I really dont think that is what it is since I never feel the heartburn. Any ideas of what else it could be?
Dear Carolyn, that could still be related to gastro-erosive reflux disease, and you still not have alot of heartburn. I suffer from it, very little burning, but I have some even weirder symptoms, the sensation of being squeezed or choking. I have taken several OTC meds, for me, prevacid first thing in the morning 1 hour before eating has improved it as has trying to shed extra tummy weight. Proton pumps inhibitors tend to take a few days to weeks to work and relieve symptoms. The percocet could be making your digestion slow down somewhat too. GNC stores carry digestive enzymes and they are taken with meals. I think their brand is called GNC SUPER DIGESTIVE ENZYMES, and are about $17 with the tax for a bottle of 90. You could try those and an OTC proton pump inhibitor to see if it helps any. It did help me alot. Most stores have their own brand of omeprazole, the med in prilosec-OTC and it is cheaper than prevacid OTC, but works to shut down most of the acid pumps. I hope this info helps you, I have been miserable with my symptoms at times and 2 drs and a gastrospecialist nurse all said they suspect GERD is the culprit. Having any extra weight in the mid section can make this worse.
