I'm taking Qvar 80 mcg (two spaced out puffs a day) and I'm wondering if this will lower my immune system. I also read that it can mask infection, so could I have an infection and not know? Im prone to pneumonia so it's important to me to catch the early signs. Thank you.
Technically speaking Q-Var "could" lower your immune system. Some prescription documents (the ones the pharmacy gives you) will state that it can. This is due to the fact that Q-Var is a steroid, and all steroids have the ability to lower your immune system. However, the good news is that Q-Var, like most inhaled steroids generally does not cause a lowered immune system in most people the way that the pill steroids (like Prednisone) do. If you are concerned about getting sick, you might want to talk to your doctor to see if the pneumonia vaccine is right for you.
