..Hello Everyone, I have been on Lexapro for almost 10 years. I was prescribed it when I was 21 for constant panic attacks and moderate depression. I have been feeling good the past few years, but my doctor said if it works, then don't stop taking it. My problem now is that I haven't seen my doc in over a year and I need a refill and she won't see me without an appointment. I am a full-time college student and recently unemployed so my funds are tight and I just cannot afford a doctor visit until I get back on my feet. I've been debating quitting cold- turkey because that seems like my only option. I'm scared of the side effects, but if I can get through the first week I think I will be ok. Has anyone else been on Lexapro this long and had success detoxing? Please help. I would love any advice. I won't be able to go to the doc tomorrow and it will be day 2 without my pills.
Doesn't your college have a health clinic you can go to for a prescription? To tell you the truth, I would go to the er and get a prescription. They will let you pay monthly. You are probably also going to be experiencing depression again. You were feeling good because you were on the med. Withdrawal from anti depressents isn't pleasant.

Hello REnee7682. Lexapro ranks among the top of the scale when it is time to stop taking it in regards to side effects. (And thats on a taper) I would certainly not go the cold turkey route. Regards pledge

I quit lexapro cold turkey about 2 weeks ago after taking it for almost 2 years. I can honestly say I DID IT, I AM BACK TO NORMAL! When I say 'normal' i mean i feel like a functioning person. I did not realize how much it held me back! I went from 20mgs, i cut the tab in half for 2 days (10mg) and then just stopped, after about a day or 2 I started experiencing what I assume are these 'brain zaps' everyone talks about. It was just a second of like being frozen in my mind, or slow motion... just odd, didn't hurt i can still go about my day, just VERY noticeable.. they are GONE. I have also been experiencing SLIGHTLY lack of sleeping. Not very much though, I've been having trouble falling asleep but I still get like 6 - 7 hours, but that can be a multitude of factors. I am now getting used to emotions and feelings I never really had and i snapped a few times but overall my general attitude is happy, i laugh a LOT more, I'm motivated and feeling GREAT, Ill never go back.
