My dad has been dealing with horrible back pain hit whole life(multiple herniated discs) over the last two years he has been having very bad leg pain due to the disc(nothing comes up on MRI's thats why we know its from his back) He had surgery yesterday on his herniated disc, which should relieve his leg pain which is actually worse for him than the back, and also fix his back a bit. Can anyone tell me how long recovery takes? I was told that the disc surgery is supposed to relieve the pain fairly quickly for your leg(because of the pressure it was putting on it before surgery) but I am just trying to get an idea so that my Dad does not go crazy worrying that the surgery did not work. Any input would help!
Sorry there really is not a good answer for this back surgery is tough on most people and everyone has to heal at there own pace and sometimes the disc etc can cause more problems I have seen lots of people with this type surgery and i would not expect that his legs well stop hurting that fast becase having to take it easy so one part can heal while the other is too and he has had leg problems for awhile it might take longer because the way you change your walking etc that can cramp up things in your leg and now that he should be able to have more movement in his legs it could cause a bit more pain..So sorry best is ask the doctor when you go into the office again about what you can expect for you dad again pain wise good luck chuck1957
