I had extreme anxiety issues 1 year ago, my Doctor put me on cymbalta 60 mg. in A.M., and Quetiapine 12.5 mg for insomnia. I have been thinking about getting off sleep pill concerned side effects and withdrawal. Scared to stop in my mind I think i wont be able to sleep. I want my natural sleep back, never had this problem before, i am 67 year old female. Thanks
Same thing happened to me when I turned 67 years old and retired. Couldnt stay asleep and then ended up listening to talk radio when I couldnt sleep which works most of the time. I thought I would be able to sleep after quitting alcohol but no. I think it is an age and genetic problem. I dont have any anxiety- nothing to worry about- maybe I;m just not active enough. Doctor started me on 25 mg seroquel which really works well- and minimal side effects- except that your body will get used to the seroquel and then you have to take 50 mg which I think makes you gain weight. I cant sleep without the seroquel so I;m going to stick with it- sure it could be really messing up your brain but what is the alternative?
My doctor prescribed hydroxyzine HCL (brand name Atarax) at 10 mg tablets, one or 2 at bedtime as needed. I don't need them every night, but they always work quite well when I need them to give me a full night's sleep, and no grogginess or hangover feeling the next morning. I have not experienced any side effects from them. Been taking them for about a couple of years.
