Patient was given ampicillin and is allergic to penicillin. Review of his chart showed he is allergic to penicillin. What question would you ask a patient allergic to penicillin?
First I'd verify they took penicillin and not a synthetic, similar or derived form. Then, what they're prior allergic reaction was like - for example was it first use or after repeated use- what symptoms, if they've taken other antibiotics with or without issue and what they are. Depending on their answers I'd ask more or suggest a challenge test to an antibiotic in question.
