I have taken 1, (0.5mg), Ativan for at least 8 years as prescribed by my doctor. He prescribed it after trying many other anxiety drugs. I have never used more than 1 pill at bedtime. It has helped me sleep much better and kept my anxiety at a livable level. I might add that I also was diagnosed with sleep apnea around the same time. I also have high blood pressure. The Ativan seems to keep me calmer, and much more alert the next day after taking it at night. My question is, is there any long term harm from taking the drug?
You are taking it the same way that I am, I have looked at lots of info on this drug and have not come across any mention of harm other than a tolerance build up over time. Where the patient believes that the drug is not working as well and then takes more. This happens with all benzodiazepines and is the cause of many addictions to the drug. So when using this drug it is good advice to use caution when your head tells you, you need to take more and what you really need to do is not listen to said brain. That is the only one that I have come across, hope this helps
