My grades dropped every fall. I'm now 61 & still a severe problem. After several life changing events earlier this year I have been put on several different meds for severe depression disorder, anxiety, & panic attacks. Besides all of my other health meds. One point I want folks to know, I have been in hospital for trying to harm myself. Now that SAD time is upon us, I am hoping the prescriptions will help. I also take 50000units of vit d 1 time week & b 12 every day, I guess I've dumped my feelings enough, just want to chat. Because right now I don't leave the house except for doc visits. Hi ptkbmat! I'm not sure how long you have been around here on these boards, but I think you will find this to be a very sharing, supportive, caring, and non-judgmental community of people who have or still are in your same shoes and can completely identify with you. If you get to a place where you are clearly going down the road towards self-harm again, we will switch to tough-love and no bones about it, we will tell you to go get help... as in, NOW. I remember being on the very verge of a breakdown once, and I knew all I needed to do was walk up to a police officer and let them know that I am feeling this way and need help and don't know where to go, and I knew they would take me to the hospital or the psychiatric hospital for a 72-hour hold, but that would have been what I was surrendering myself to in order to save my own life, and so it was GOOD. Always know that there is never any shame in fighting for your life like I have just described - it takes courage because that is a scary thing to do; and trust, that they will keep your best interests at heart.
So, you didn't share about whether the new medicine regimen was helping you to feel better (it doesn't have to be perfect, obvi)? Also, has anyone talked to you about investing in a light therapy device? I think it's like a paneled thing that opens up and shines light onto your face that replicates the effects of the sun for your brain, and you use this in the months you have SAD. Hope to hear from you. :-)
