I only sleep like 3 or 4 hours then can't get back to sleep. I use trazodone only when I'm tired of fighting. I would rather sleep on my own. I've been on Lexapro for like 4 or 5 months. Every thing was great I kept telling myself my sleep would work itself out and I wouldn't have to use Trazodone anymore butt it didn't I changed the time I took my Lexapro from evenings two mornings and that didn't help so I went back to taking it in the evening because I was able to sleep for about a month on it in my third month I believe then I don't know what changed I feel like I need to get off of this and just do it myself just get through this with my own power do natural supplements Maybe like 5-HTP and things of that nature I don't want to be on any medicine anymore it just doesn't seem natural
I really think you should talk to your Doc before going off Lexapro. It may not be the Lexapro causing your sleep disturbance. Possibly it is anxiety? I take 10 mg of Lexapro in the evening as well after trying it at different times of day. I had sleep disturbances like you & my Doctor put me on Clonazepam before bed as well. This has worked well for me. At one point I tried Melatonin and although it worked well, I had side effects & had to stop it... thus the Clonazepam which is working great in my case. I tried Trazadone too but it did not work for me for sleep at all. Going off Lexapro is a process & needs to be supervised by a Doctor. If you are on the Lexapro for sleep issues only, I can understand your wanting to stop it, but if you are on it for depression & anxiety you may want to rethink your decision & you really should speak to your Doctor about this. All of us would love to be able to handle things on our own but that is unfortunately not always possible. Good luck! Insomnia sucks. But there are other alternatives.
I was the same as you. I would be averaging 3-4 hours of sleep a night. My dr put me on Lexapro for my anxiety and thought that would fix my sleep issues. It fixed my anxiety but I still had sleep issues. So I was put in a very low dose of seroquel at night. Wow!!! This stuff is amazing!! Not only did it enhance the affects of the Lexapro, it made me sleep like a baby!!! Amazing stuff!!! Fast forward 8 months and I'm slowing weening myself off the Lexapro (going from 15mg - I'm now on 5mg and will be off in a week) and the seroquel (I was on 50mg, now on 12.5mg). My sleep is perfect now - I average around 7.5 hours a night which is never broken!!
