Allergic to penicillin and sulfate
Keflex (cephalaxin ) is not a sulfa drug, and it belongs to the drug class of first generation cephalosporins, which are chemically related to penicillin, therefore you may have an allergic reaction to it.
I strongly suggest you speak to your Dr. / Pharmacist before you take this antibiotic.
I am allergic to Keflex, and my doctor REFUSES to let me take penicillin. There is a crossover, but enough that it is not worth going into anaphylactic shock to try. I am also allergic to sulfate. there are plenty of other antibiotics on the market that will cover any problem that you have. I'm in my 50's, and have not taken either one since I was 19. I don't know if you have ever been in anaphylactic shock or not, but it is not fun,nor worth it, in my opinion.
Best of luck to you!!
I am allergic to penicillian & when I had back surgery was given Keflex & had a horrible icthy rash. It was changed quickly & the doctor said it is related to penicillian so I would say that you probably can't take it safely. Why take the chance when here are so many others available...
