My monthly cycle is for 27 days and I had unprotected sex on 17 June 1 a.mand just then I got to know that my monthly cycle has started. My monrhly cycle due date was 23 june but 5 days earlier means 17 June it should have started. And monthly cycle started on 17 June around the same time when had unprotected sex.Should I take any contraceptive ?
Doesnt matter how long your cycle is or where you are in your cycle. There is no "safe" time to have unprotected sex. A woman can ovulate anywhere in her cycle and can ovulate more than once in a cycle so one should never consider anytime a "safe" time. Even women who are dedicated ovulation charters can make mistakes because the body is just not regular. If you are within 72 hour window after sex, you can try taking emergency contraceptive. Without contraceptive, you have a 70-80% chance of avoiding pregnancy. WITH emergency contraceptive, you have an 80-95% chance of avoiding pregnancy depending on whether or not you have ovulated. Emergency contraceptives work by delaying ovulation hopefully long enough for live active sperm to die out so they dont fertilize an egg. If the egg call has already been released, there isnt anything for the emergency contraceptive to do except give you a huge blast of hormones. It wont stop a pregnancy already in progress so if you are going to try to avoid pregnancy after the fact, the sooner the better! It may or may not work depending on where you are in your cycle. If one is going to be sexually active, it makes the most sense to be on birth control. Hormonal methods like birth control pills, Nuva Ring, etc are 99.9% effective when used perfectly. Much much more effective than emergency contraceptives or condoms! Anytime you have unprotected sex, you play Russian Roulette with your body and one time you will get caught!
