So this is my first post, I'm not new to the antidepressant world. I have been on Effexor 75mg once a day for 2 years now. I had postpartum depression after my son was born. Recently I have been noticing that I'm tired all the time, no drive, no desires... all in all I'm not myself at all anymore. I think it's all linked to my Effexor. So I would like to go off it. How can I do this safely? I'm on the capsule one. Does anyone else get side effects like the ones I listed from Effexor?
jlams1114; Depression is hard to figure sometimes the same symptoms when you have depression can be much like it can be without it also. Your best bet is to see your doctor and speak with her or him and see what they think. And not only for that reason Effexor can be a bit hard to get off of. You may need the doctor to write out a list on how to go off of it and to be honest the slower the better so you don't have to deal with the side effects of coming off of it. And it is never a good idea to try and do it yourself. please get in to see your doctor. before you do anything. Best of luck to you and enjoy the baby. Chuck1957 ps always feel free to come back and let us know how your doing or if you have another question be it me or one of the other great people her. have a nice night.
I just was weaned off of 450mg of Effexor XR ... yes that's right- some doctor put me on double the FDA recommended max dose! My new doctor helped me wean off 75mg at a time and to reduce my dosage another 75 mg each week. This is one of the most difficult meds to wean off. I'll be honest, I was miserable! My suggestion is this: start taking the 75mg every other day for about 2 weeks and then stop. The depression and anxiety was terrible, but it gets better. If you have a good doctor, I'd run this and your desire to get off of Effexor by your doctor. I was on Effexor XR for 8 years. In the beginning it helped me a lot. But I believe you're doing the right thing. You know your body best. Hope my experience helps you.
I was on 225 mg for 5 years and my doctor weaned me off slowly, Also my Pharmacy Manager helped out. She suggested that i have a vitamin test and i needed B-12 because i had no energy no ambition. I also use 10 mg of Melatonin for sleep. These symptoms will all pass with time, stay positive and try exercise. Good Luck you will get there.
