... blood work shows compensated liver failure. What do I do? I have tried to make an appointment but the Liver specialist will not see me for another 5 weeks. The Liver specialist believes my problems (current) are caused by excessive alcohol consumption but I don't drink. Obviously I stopped the HRT immediately but I have had to cancel a major surgery because my blood clotting time is too high and platelets too low as a result of this problem. I already had a bad liver from when I was still a drinker and it took ages for my Liver to get back even some function and this has been wiped out in 3 weeks. So, again, what do I do?
Not much you can do but wait to see the liver specialist. Have you told your PCP that they cant see you for 5 weeks? You could try seeing another liver specialists but many of them in certain areas have long waits to see them. In the meantime ask your PCP what you should be taking as far as medications. Absolutely NO acetaminophen/paracetimol! Do what you can to preserve liver function. If you are feeling very sick, go to the ER. You may end up needing a transplant.
Hello Stephen – Sorry to learn of your recent set back. From what you say it sounds like you may benefit from a few days of Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System (MARS – liver dialysis) that removes protein-bound and water-soluble toxins with albumin dialysis. Also it can help stabilize your coagulopathy. However as you may be aware many institutions have strict criteria for its use- wishing you well.
