My doctor did so because I have SLE that has caused major damage requiring chronic severe pain control. It damaged my liver which is now affecting my ability to metabolize oral pain medication. I am wanting to know if it is ok to remove my patch to take a hot shower or bath and put it back on, with a covering adhesive if necessary? Hot baths and showers are the only the things that help me deal with bad muscle cramping. Think of it as getting Charlie horses in any and multiple muscles. Opioids can't stop that pain for me.
Once they are on and that adhesive bond is made, you can try and tape it down but it won't deliver any medication. You cannot use a hot tub or run hot water over it (read the product insert completely) and you cannot stand in a shower with hot water running over it. The issue is that most of the usable fentanyl is absorbed in the first 24 hours into the fat just below your skin. The patch then forms a bio barrier to stop the fentanyl being lost over the next day or two. If you soak in hot water with the patch on you risk delivering up to twice the rated contents (for 3 days) in 10 minutes.
Any further questions please ask, Steve.
