“I’ve done research and read that the most effective thing to cope with panic attacks and social anxiety is benzodiazepines. Would I be able to try those and see if they work for me?"
Hi! Ive suggeated to my psychiatrist to try this or that for my depression, anxiety and that ive looked up this drug or that drug and think it might help me. Everytime they agreed and prescribed it for me. So I personally dont think its a bad thing to say. If you've done your own research on it and want to try it because you think it will help I would speak up about it! Good luck to you!!
Your psychiatrist is right! From experience, the only drug that helps me to cope with my severe anxiety is Alprazolam (Xanax). If your doctor will prescribe them, then "Yes".
Take care & stay well
Xanax is not meant to be taken everyday. It’s designed for as needed basis only. It’s designed to act very quickly to abort a severe panic/ anxiety attack and leave your body quickly so you can live a productive life.
If not you will become tolerant to Xanax so you will need more and more or you won’t get any relief from your mental health issues because your brain is used to the drug.
I am on Dilauded for severe chronic pain and if I take it regularly within 2-3 days I’m completely immune and have no pain relief. It’s a controlled substance so even if I want my prescription even one day early it’s an emphatic No.
Xanax is a benzodiazepine and in Canada is not a narcotic but carries the same stereotypes and stigma around it.
I just watched my grandmother go through Ativan withdrawals after being on it for 15 years and it was horrible. Ativan is one of many benzodiazepines.
Personally I’m immune to the effects of any benzodiazepine.. rather disconcerting that I can take 12 Xanax and feel nothing except agitated that I wasted my time and pills.
