Am currently on 20 mg of methotrexate? weekly. I am somewhat better, but still have some finger joint pain and an occasional wrist flare up. I go back to see my doc in a couple of weeks. If he wants to add Enbrel to my meds do I really need to take it? I can live with the pain the way it is right now - it doesn't interfere with most of my activities if I use aleve too. Will it cause damage to my wrists and fingers if I choose to just continue the way things are? I don't like needles and frankly the expense of Enbrel isn't too appealing either
You do not mention your age so there are several things to consider here. First of all the meds. for PSA and RA are to stop the joint damage from getting worse. Your finger joints can swell, curve & have big knots on them. Not trying to scare you but the meds should keep this from happening. I could not take methotrexate because it upset my stomach and I stayed sick all the time. I was on Embrel for 2 1/2 yrs. and it was the perfect drug for me. I can't take it now because I can't afford it. There are so many drugs that can help you. With PSA you probably have Psoriasis, if you are taking an anti-inflammatory drug then I don't think you can take Aleve. I am on Orencia now and went over a year coming off the embrel with nothing. The pain gets worse so try to find something you can live with asap. I wish you the best and don't give up. Keep on top of your symptons and find the right Rheumatologist to help you...
