Has anyone heard of data associated with male factor infertility or abnormal fetus development stemming from use of Enbrel for PA? My rheum suggested that I be off the drug for 3 weeks prior to conception, but was unable to point to any studies or data indicating any real risk. Thoughts?

Sorry, it occurred to me that I was unclear about one critical detail. The person taking Enbrel for PA is the husband (i.e., me!) My wife is not on any medication. We have not conceived yet and I was wondering if there are any risks associated with the male using Enbrel at this point.
For the safety, well being and fetus of the baby I would follow rheum directions and also inquire of using something else for this type of medical condition, something that won't harm fetus or cause infertility concerns in or with the male. In this day and time, there are options... so many especially medically depending on the severity and so with that said, I would set up an appt with your specialist and have all this information in front of you and see what can be done until you know that your wife/girlfriend child is out of the woods so to speak, ex... 1st trimester... the first 3 months... and it would be vital that she try and take the vitamin specifically formulated for pregnant mother's to up her chances of the health of her and her child... re confirm with your med prfsnl... blaze22

I googled "enbrel and male fertility" and found several sites that address this issue. One letter inparticular written to a male asking this question is as follows:
I would call Enliven Services, the helpline for people who take Enbrel and speak with a nurse to ask this question. Their # is: 1-888-436-2735. They are open 7 days a week, 8 am to 11 pm, Eastern time. There would be no need to have his "buddies" frozen! When you're ready to start a family and IF his doctor says that it's necessary to be off Enbrel while trying to conceive, the drug is out of the body in a week. Give Enliven Services a call. They are very knowledgeable about these things. I hope Enbrel helps your husband very much.
I hope this helps,
