I started Prozac last December at twenty milligrams and then went up to, where I am now, fifty-five milligrams. To-day is week six of being on this dose, and I just feel down, and not happy. I heard that it takes six to eight weeks to kick in, but I'm just wondering if I can expect anything to get better with time. I see my psychiatrist in two weeks. I have ocd and heard that it can take high doses of an antidepressant to work on that. I think I have anxiety related ocd.
Andrew; You are correct it take's 6 to 8 weeks for Prozac to reach the steady blood level so keep on your dose and when you see your doctor in 2 weeks you should be at the full benefit of the dose you are on. And if you're still not feeling better the doctor should increase the dose again. Or think about changing the medication to one of the others. This is the real hard part because it takes so long just to see if it's going to work and then start over if the medication is not doing the trick. So it's like a hit and miss, But this is common most of us have been through this the average person try up to 3 different medications before finding one that really does the job. Now I'm not saying that is you this could be the one just a matter of getting the right dose. Do your best and keep the faith, a sense of humor, and think positive it all helps to sidetrack yourself from dwelling on the OCD. AND AS SAID THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT ONES YOU WELL GET THERE. HAVE A GOOD DAY chuck1957
