I have been taking Oxycontin. I started taking Prozac and now Oxycontin is not working. Has anyone had this experience and/or does anyone know how and why this could be happening?
Yes, it can and it will, Prozac (and all other SSRIs for that matter) inhibit the production of a multi-function enzyme known as Cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) which coincidentally is exactly the same enzyme that bioactivates oxycodone... I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on T.V. but I would strongly advise switching to Mirtrazapine/Remeron which is a tetracyclic antidepressant and won't inhibit (CYP2D6). Hope this helps...
