I see my doctor again in one month to revisit how I’m feeling. Is 10mg too low of a dose for a 39 year old female? I suffer with anxiety, depression, but most of all, intrusive thoughts and hypochondriasis. How do I know when to up the dosage to 20mg? I’m guessing that since it’s been one week since I began taking 10mg, that this is a positive sign that the drug works for me.
Prozac 10mg question. I was prescribed Prozac one week ago and I already feel slightly better?

Hi, Danielle! Great to hear that you're seeing some improvement!
"Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve.

There is no "correct" dosage for any given individual... it just depends on your own metabolism and how you respond to the medication. If after a good trial (several weeks) on the 10mg you're still experiencing some symptoms you'll know it's time to increase your dosage.
It's very important to stay in touch with your doctor in these early days to keep her/him up to date on your progress (or hopefully not lack of progress!).
If you have any questions or concerns along the way, you should always feel free to post again, okay?
Best regards and good luck to you! Wildcat
That’s great news! It’s important to stay at the minimally effective dose, and you’ll know around the month mark if it is or isn’t. Everyone reacts to and processes these meds differently do there’s no way to know if this is the appropriate dose.
Hi Danielle! I took 10mg of Prozac for 2 weeks and felt absolutely nothing. I told my doctor and he upped my dosage to 20mg, after which I started feeling the effects immediately (I felt much better!). That being said, there is no “too high or too low” of a dosage for anyone of any age because it varies so much from one person to the next. It could very well be the case that 10mg is the perfect dosage for you. Just keep track of your mood and report anything strange to your doctor. Best of luck!
