This is my first time taking any form of birth control. My last period began on 3/27 and my next one isn't expected until the 26th or so of this month, but I'd like to start taking the pills right away. I asked my doctor if I could start tonight (4/9) and she said it would be fine... but in reading the directions included in my prescription, it says to start either within the first 24 hours of the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period begins. So is it still fine to begin them tonight? What should I expect? And will I still be protected this time next week?
You can start it mid cycle, its just that you will then have your cycle off a bit until your body gets used to it. Your period will switch to the sugar pills. Start it with day one of the pills at Thursday . This will then be the day you start a new pack all the time. Pick a time that you will be able to take your pill, every day. for instance, if you pick 8 pm, that means that you have to always take it at 8 pm give or take a few minutes. You probably won't have your next period when you had it planned, but you may have some spotting then. Don't forget you need a condom for the first week of pills.
