Hello, currently I take Buspirone 7.5 2x a day, Prozac 10 mg, and clonazepam as needed if attack occurs. I feel very anxious, worried, nervous, and don't even know why. It all spiraled out of control when i had my first intense panic attack in early 2016. I do have a phobia of getting sick, particularly things out of my control, like a stomach virus, and I think this leads me to excessively worry about it. I am looking into finding a counselor. My two sons have inattentive ADHD which also causes me a lot of stress. I am a Christian and have turned to prayer, bible and faith messages and preachers as well. Thank you for anyone who can give me some advice.
shelldawnn; I am sorry that your post has not been answered yet. But for now, there really is no such thing as a protocol for panic attacks, or many of the other type of mental problems You are on the right type of medications to start with if it helps I don't see your age but with 2 kids you must be an average adult.But if the panic attacks continue I would suggest that your doctor increases the Prozac to at least 20mg every day in the morning. That seems to help many people more. Or check with the doctor if you don't notice much difference and have the doctor change it to something else. There are many medications in that class and others that do wonders nowadays. But I highly recommend that you get in to see a therapist as soon as you can. Try and get a correct diagnosis for what you are dealing with. There are many things you can be taught to help stop dwelling on things out of your control. Myself I believe faith, a sense of humor, And thinking positive this includes getting negative people or thinkers out of your life. We soak up their negative energy just listening to them. Get some reading materials to keep you busy. And most of all try not to focus on the stuff that is bothering you. Like when you find yourself dwelling on ideas that bring on a panic attack learn how to change you thinking to something you enjoy to break the focus.
And for now, Until your working with a therapist or psychiatrist If it continues to get bad. Don't think you are going nuts more people suffer from these conditions than you well ever know.And I know you well be fine, even find something like relaxation books, to teach different ways of taking the tension out of your body and mind. The one medication you're taking the Prozac is a SSRI medication class, supplimentsAnd what it does for many people is our brains make Serotonin by itself and the idea is that it is not making enough and that is why these medications work is supplements us. So everyone is different and this is why different medications work differently for different people. I well give you one thing as your waiting to get in to see a therapist that helped me so much with the panic attacks many years ago. And this is a breathing exercise practice it, Then when you have it down good it kicks in automatically and I can be out in a store or driving down the street you never know what or when the panic attack may kick in. Anyway, when you feel one coming on don't stress out. Check out what you body is doing. Is your heart beating very fast, Stomach butterflies etc or bouncing around feeling. and the most important thing to do is check your breathing and the chances are many of us start to breathe very shallow. Just in the upper chest. Anyway if you can lay down put a book or plate on your stomach and work on breathing deep very slow so that you raise the book up. Then exhale very slow keep doing this but always remember you have to do this slow on the breathing in and out. Many times now I can do it in any position and nobody can even tell that I'm doing it and it calms me down that many times I get through the as needed anti-anxiety medication give this a try . And also by reading other people's stories keep in mind some are very negative and hopeless so take only the good out of them that well help and ignore the negative comments. You sure don't need more things to think over and just remember this time of year brings on many reason to have anxiety and panic attacks try and just go through it as easy as you can and just remember that the holidays even if you don't notice bring on a lot of emotions that you may not even be aware of.
