I'm taking Nortrel 7 7 7 28 for birth control. I am on my second month. I'm a little concerned about if I am protected from pregnancy or not? I had my period 3/19-3/23 and started the new pack on the 24th. We had sex on the 25th and he didn't pull out completely. I'm now 4 days in to the 2nd week pills and my breasts are tender and sore. I'm trying not to freak out because I know that can also be a side effect of the pill. I haven't missed a pill since I've started the pill and have always taken them within an hour 10-11 AM. Should I be protected?
Did you use back up that first week of the month you started them? If you used back up when you first started them and you have been taking them regularly and this is your second month you should be ok. If you didnt use condoms as back up when you first started, then you could be pregnant. Pulling out before ejaculation is NOT a form of birth control-you can still get pregnant even if he pulls out in time because men secrete sperm all through the sex act not just when they ejaculate. Pulling out does little to nothing to prevent pregnancy! So if you were counting on that as your "back up" then you could very well be pregnant. Since you did have your period, you are probably ok, breast tenderness can be from the hormones in the pill. Once you are established on the Pill, you no longer need to have him pull out-you are protected. The only reason for condoms after you are established on the Pill is for STD protection and for back up if you miss a pill or take antibiotics.
