How long does it take this medication to work?
Hi Wendy! I'm curious why you were put on a cardiac drug for anxiety? I'd never heard of that and I looked it up to see does it treat anxiety but I see heart, blood pressure, and migraine uses. I'm not sure what you may experience physically with your anxiety, I suffer from it too for some decades but never experienced any cooccuring type of cardiac effects with my anxiety. It seems a rather odd med for anxiety. Some side effects of it can parallel with anxiety also? I know drs. say give meds. 7 to 14 days to work but this is one that is rather quick acting and may not be good for you??? There also could be interactive issues with other meds. you are on... I don't know how appropriate it is to say but I have to be honest with you in caring that I wouldn't want to be in the class of really a cardiac treatment of drug?
Wendy64; By now you should be noticing some relief you should call the doctor on Monday. I have been taking this for 20 years or so original dose was 20mg 3 to 4 times daily. The Reason Shelly did not see it is this is used as an off label medication. I orig; starting taking this for Migraine prevention and as an agoraphobic and panic suffer my anxiety got much better. now myself I use the timed release 80mg capsule and take it in the morning and it works all day for me.
Just for the record this is also the medication used for Stage fright by speakers in crowds and many actors and musician's use on stage. LOL but I also have some benzodiazepine as in Xanax or Klonopin to use when I get to much anxiety to handle. Hope that help's sure has for me from way back when it was not even generic yet. Chuck1957
Propranolol is often given to musicians with anticipatory anxiety, or people who get panic attacks before giving a speech, or performances in front of a live audience. When prescribed for this purpose, it is taken on an "as needed" basis. Doctors have been prescribing this med for these reasons for years. Sounds like it must be very effective for anxiety attacks.
