Hi, I have recently been prescribed Propanolol 40mg tabs to take before bed as I've been having nocturnal panic attacks (caused due to general anxiety during the day). I've been reading lots about people who have taken this drug just to treat anxiety in general? Can anyone else confirm that they use it for anxiety in general and also how it does this?
Joel; Yes this is used often for Anxiety attacks this is the same medication that they have been using for 15 or more years for speakers that get very nervous in front of crowds and many musicians take this also. You don't see much about it this was found out long after it came out mainly for the blood pressure of heart beat regulation. Myself I have been taking this over 20 years and would not be without it I started using it for migraine headache prevention and then out of the blue it started really helping other medications that I was taking for anxiety and other reason. The reason you don't see this in many written places the doctors use this in what they call for off-label use. Or it would have to be studied for another 20 years and cost 75 x more by the drug companies. good luck Chuck1957
I think that Chuck covered most of you questions.
If you can could you please post to tell us if it works for you. I also have nocturnal panic attacks. These are not like a panic attack. The adrenaline surge in the night is what wakes me up. I am in the attack before I am awake and wake up to anxiety, sweats and trembling. Usually happens after 3-4 hours of sleep sometimes several times a night. It is a awful way to wake up. Is this how it is with you?
