I have been through cancer in 2007 and a broken back with a cut spinal cord injury. I have had three surguries on my back so far. I also have necrosis in my left hip causing me pain. My Doctor has me on 150mcg fentenayl and 10.325 norco for pain break through. My question is what else can I take other than the Fentenyal? I am happy with it, but after 1 year of being on it, it seems like I need more and they don't last 72 hours. I am going in for a pain consult with my doctor Wednesday. Can anyone help?
I had a hip replacement 9 months ago due to avascular necrosis. I finally got the surgery after the head of the femur had bored through my pelvis. I only go 50 ugm/hour patches which were able to reduce the pain on day 2 by enough that I could drive my manual car (you call them a stickshift or somesuch). My experience is that Doctors don't seem to understand the concept of tolerance to a medication or have any real empathy. Women doctors can be mixed.
Just tell the pain doctor the truth and make sure you have all your diagnostic imaging (+ reports if available) that supports your claim.
