I am on Gabepentin it has helped me to get a little more sleep. I still only seem to get 3 hours sleep no matter how early or late I go to sleep. Because of this I am tired all day. I can't find a job that can deal with inability to stay away during the day. Please help me, soon I will no longer be able to pay my bills. Oh and my doctor seems to be quite useless in my battle for sleep!!
I don't find gabapentin good for sleep, that side effect of drowsiness wears off pretty fast. I take amitriptyline and melatonin extended release. You can ask your dr for the amitriptyline and the melatonin is otc. I sleep all night, if my little dogs let me. Even when they wake me I go back to sleep. There are other things tho too. No tv or computer before bed, it stops your own melatonin production. Try a glass of milk before bed, it doesn't have to be hot. Be sure your room is dark and is a comfortable temperature. Go to bed at the same time every night. Do not lay there and look at the clock.
Sleep studies today are more advanced than ever. There are numerous non-medication actions you can take to help with this, nutritional (what you eat and when you est it), behavioral (habits 3-hours before bed), activity (exercise, even walking) how much and when and drug-interactions.
Worth looking into, especially since so much of this is available online, just need to take the time to look into it, best thing, aside from changing the foods around the house, no cost attached.
Hi i also used to take Amitriptyline and it worked really well @ 50mg per night (Unfortunately i had to discontinue this after some time because of interacting with other medications i take). But i also can't speak highly enough about 'Good sleep hygiene guides'. This has revolutionised my night time routine & sleeping success. Although i still don't sleep perfectly, i am much better off than i used to be...
