... refuses to try anything else now that we've run through all the major ones, I can't even recall all the names. The last one was Effexor. No side effects. No effects at all. I've been in bed for nearly 6 years, except for medical visits.
I am sorry that nothing has worked for you. Sometimes a combo of meds can work. There are some older antidepressants that are not used much anymore that may work. Six years is a long time to suffer. There also non-tradition approaches. Try not to let your doctor give up on you. This is about your quality of life and you have every right to continue to seek a treatment that may work, even if that means finding another doctor that will work with you.
Wishing you the best :)
Depression runs in my family. Mine started at around 15 years old (I'm 60 now). Until they invented Prozac, the meds around had bad side effects. I've tried many and so far only 2 have worked. Zoloft worked for a few years then sort of wore off. Now I'm on time release Effexor XR which I believe hangs around in your blood longer so has more time to be absorbed. I have to avoid both alcohol and sugar or nothing helps. In fact my depression wasn't really controlled until I started avoiding refined carbohydrates (white flour, white rice etc.). For me it turns out that my diet plays a large role in my depression. Maybe that would help you too. Definitely get a new Psychiatrist with "fresh eyes" to evaluate your issues. It's your life and you deserve to get out of bed. Forgot to mention Pristiq did nothing for me either.
