I was wondering because i have managed to get myself weened off of 160mg of Oxycontin an high doses of roxicodone down to a few hydros and percs a day but i need to find something to help me kick the rest of this habit and a detox program is not something that i can afford at this moment in my life and I can't just sit around an hope that one day i can afford to get myself help i got to kick this problem NOW!
All you can do is ask. You need to do more than this though, it's a lifestyle change, all substances have to go including alcohol. You keep pushing and you will find the help you need, whatever you do, do not go the Methadone clinic route.
He can prescribe anything he wants to. Some don't want to order controlled drugs because they are afraid of the government.
Until you're ready to give it all up, (and it really doesn't sound like you are) you won't do it. You talk about "a few hydros and percs" as though that's nothing. It's something, and you need to deal with that. Where are you getting all your meds from? Is it a doctor, or is it from a dealer? If you really want to get off this stuff, you can do it. You just start taking less for a few days, and then less again for a few days. You know the routine, you've done it before. There's no easy way to detox. it's not going to be easy, nothing will make it easier for you. Just do what needs to be done and stop pretending that a few hydros and a few percs are nothing.
Yes, a pcp can do this, but they may not be comfortable. You don't specify whether you have chronic pain as that makes it much more difficult to get off pain meds unless you find an alternative that works. But if you are motivated, and cannot go to a structured rehab, you slowly taper with short acting narcotics, stronger to weaker, to lower dose until off. Preferably with a medical person prescribing and supervising so there are no complications.
Ps, just noticed, this question is 2 yrs old, so it has probably been taken care of.
