... out, is it?
May I ask why you would want to take two? Is it not controlling the heartburn or GERD you are having? If not, doubling the dose is not going to help, & you may have something else going on there. Please let your doctor know about this. I take omprazole which is similar at 20mg FIRST thing when I wake up in the morning. It is time released so it helps for all day. Also be aware of long term use of thiese type of drugs(proton inhibitors) can cause an increase in the rate of femur fractures... Mary
Are you thinking that you need 40mg of Prilosec because your Nexium is 40mg? This may not be the case. Just follow the directions on the package of prilosec. One tablet may be enough to control your symptoms. The two medications are very similar but they are different too(Nexium is esomeprazole and Prilosec is omeprazole) so just try one 20mg Prilosec tab first. If this doesnt control your symptoms, talk to your Dr or pharmacist for direction.
The PPI's take time to work as they slow down the production of acid. Please give it at least a week or so before you have any expectations. They work wonders once they do start working but they also have side effects for some people as they interfere with the production of certain vitamins the body normally produces. Please make an appointment with your doctor if you are not sure about this medication or the amount you should take. Even though a medication is an over the counter one, does not mean your doctor should not know about your condition.
Good Luck to you,
