I have been prescribed methenamine after other antibiotics failed to hold off the urinary tract infections. I have been using this drug for one year now. I am wondering what the side effects will eventually do to me.
I did, and it turned out that I actually have interstistial cystitis, which feels like chronic bladder infections but is actually a chronic pain issue, more like IBS. If you keep getting bladder infections but have no bacteria found, you may want to see if they will test you for IC.
Its not actually an antibiotic. Its an antibacterial..It functions at the same level as using something like betadine on your skin. It changed the ph of the urine, so that bacteria can't grow. The only organ you have to be concerned about is the kidneys, and your doc should be doing kidney function tests periodically.
