How long does it typically take to begin to feel the effects on my anxiety?
Ok, now I've heard everything. Tramadol is not an anti anxiety meds it is a pain pill. It is also a controlled drug in several states, so it doesn't seem like the dr would try it rather then a benzo. Are you sure that is why the dr ordered it? And 50mg twice a day is a piddling dose too. I have never heard of anyone having it prescribed for anxiety, so I have no idea if it will ever help you. Why didn't he just put you on anti depressants?
Hi, the only reason i can think of for prescribing Tramadol for this reason, is because of it's SSRI properties, but like the other guys, i have never heard of it being prescribed for anxiety?? I would ask your doctor to explain why this medication was decided upon, and what his reason are, how he thinks it will help your condition? If you have time to get back to us, i think we'd all be interested to hear what you find out...
I am currently allowed up to 200 to 300 mg of tramadol day for pain due to arthritis, tendinitis and just aches and pains from my active-duty service as a Scout in the military. I'm also prescribed outside of the VA, Valium for my ptsd ( anger anxiety and sleeplessness ). I am going to talk to my psychiatrist about tramadol as an anti anxiety medication. So it works for me for anti anxiety because the Tramadol does not cause the intoxicating type affect that the Valium causes. The Valium pretty much just makes me nauseous and sick. If my so I can I just can't prescribe it then I will just most likely take nothing. And I can pretty much perform my job no matter what on the tramadol. Ive even rode my mountain bike while I was on Tramadol.
Just my two cents . But you probably need something to the extent of Valium for your medical condition.
Tramadol is not prescribed for anxiety. I have never heard that before what is doctor's specialty? It is prescribed for pain... I would say light to moderate before 2014 it was not schedule IV. Now in the same class as benzos which is obsurd and benzos is what I would think they would try..I am on tramadol as a prn that doesn't work very well and affecting my memory just confirmed is a side effect .and I also take benzos for anxiety..you really need to make an appt with psychiatrist to be treated for anxiety
Tramadol is a pain-killer. Benzodiazepines should only be used short-term (4~6 weeks) as they are highly addictive and used long term can actually cause anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, memory loss, and dementia. Withdrawals can be excruciating and many doctors now refuse to prescribe them.
I would get a second opinion from a doctor who is familiar with prescribing anxiolytics ~ buspirone or one of the antidepressants.
Well my experience is different as after four years of taking tramadol for restless leg syndrome my anxiety level went through the roof, wound up in the er after a panic attack and heart scare. I have no history of anxiety and am 58 years old.
I quit the tramadol, a long story on its own and am five days off it now, mostly feeling better but still anxious in the early afternoon particularly, hoping this eases with time. All my best wishes for all our peace of mind.
